Fleet Overview

BIFA operates a training fleet comprising Cessna C172 (single-engine) and Piper Seminole PA44 (multi-engine) aircraft. The fleet configuration supports core ab initio training as well as advanced phases, including instrument flight (IFR) procedures and multi-engine operations, to align training outcomes with commercial operating requirements.

Aircraft Suitability for Training

These aircraft types are widely used globally for pilot training due to their predictable handling characteristics and suitability for structured syllabus delivery. The cockpit environment supports development of fundamental competencies such as aircraft handling, navigation, radio communication, checklist discipline, and instrument scan technique.

Safety and Maintenance Control

Fleet airworthiness is managed through scheduled maintenance and inspection programs with defined quality-control processes. Maintenance activities are performed by certified technicians in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and approved procedures. Aircraft availability and serviceability are managed through routine defect reporting and rectification to maintain operational readiness for training.

Training Continuity

The fleet supports training progression from initial handling and circuit training through cross-country navigation and instrument approach procedures, providing platform continuity across multiple stages of the program.

Flight Simulator

Training Purpose

Simulator-based training is used to develop procedural competence and decision-making in a controlled setting. At BIFA, simulator sessions are integrated into the syllabus to build capability in:

  • IFR procedures and instrument scan technique
  • Navigation, situational awareness, and threat-and-error awareness
  • Abnormal and emergency procedures
  • Standard calls, checklist discipline, and procedural consistency
  • Multi-engine procedures and workload management

Training is delivered by qualified flight instructors using structured brief–fly–debrief methodology to support measurable competency development and consistent performance.

Approved Training Devices

BIFA utilises Flight Training Devices (FTDs) that are approved by relevant authorities, including the FAA and the Indonesian DGCA, to support training in accordance with applicable standards and approved syllabi.

These simulators serve as essential practice platforms, helping cadets build muscle memory, sharpen decision-making, and gain confidence before transitioning to actual flight.

Transition to Aircraft Operations

Following completion of the applicable simulator phase, cadets progress to aircraft-based IFR training. Under instructor supervision, training includes key IFR elements such as departures, arrivals, holding, and instrument approach procedures. The simulator-to-aircraft sequence is designed to support training continuity and reduce training risk by establishing procedural competence prior to line flying.

From Simulation to Real Flight

Once students successfully complete their simulator phase, they transition to real aircraft operations.
With the guidance of our Flight Instructors, cadets practice real IFR stages including departure, arrival, holding patterns, and approach procedures.
The seamless flow from simulator to actual aircraft ensures students are well-prepared, confident, and capable, ready to take the next step in their aviation journey.
